Suraj Ghai (1935–2018) was an Indian artist based in New Delhi. At the forefront of abstract and expressionist movements in Indian Art, Ghai’s work is marked by an honesty to life, and to his medium.

Spanning more than 60 years, Ghai’s paintings and drawings map his artist’s journey through different styles without being bound by any compulsions. Using colour in the emotive mode, quite a few of Ghai’s works display lyricism shot with melancholy. With subtle humour and trenchant wit, Ghai’s drawings are a stinging satire on the contemporary times.
